Understanding Eco Fashion

Eco - Fashion seems to be growing in popularity. As a planet people are becoming more and more conscientious of what they do and how it affects the world around them. I keep hearing in trend seminars how this area is growing in popularity. I also noticed at the MAGIC show (show for clothing, accessory suppliers) this past spring that Eco - fashion had its own section. That being said, perhaps it is time to take a closer look at Eco - fashion and what it means.

"Eco-fashion is about making clothes that take into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry

Eco-fashion clothes:
are made using organic raw materials, such as cotton grown without pesticides and silk made by worms fed on organic trees
dont involve the use of harmful chemicals and bleaches to colour fabrics
are often made from recycled and reused textiles. High-quality garments can be made from second-hand clothes and even recycled plastic bottles
are made to last, so that people keep them for longer
come from fair trade - the people who make them are paid a fair price and have decent working conditions.

With the eco-fashion industry still in its infancy, the main responsibility at the moment lies with clothes manufacturers and fashion designers, who need to start using sustainable materials and processes."

Admittedly, I had never had too much luck in the area of finding Eco - fashion that I actually liked and would wear. I must admit however, as this industry grows we are starting to see a good deal of garments that you can not only feel good about, but also look great! A few websites recommended by Marie Claire if you are looking to integrate more Eco - fashion into your wardrobe include:

earthgirlsboutique.com
junoandjove.com
nimli.com
shopenvi.com
thegreenloop.com
vertlosangeles.com
yooxygen.com

Of course you can take a look at additional sites. Please email me if you see a site that you would like to add to this list lvstyleconsultant@gmail.com.

How to wear harem pants

Keep the fabric lighter and the baggy center should be lifted a bit more for a modern twist.
Also balance the baggy harem pants with a fitted top
Utilize high heels to elongate your lines
Or.. add an interesting / ruffled top to create a proper look
Another option is to spice up the outfit with a fun belt!
This can be a hard look to pull off but when done right it can be very cute

A few things to remember when wearing your harem pants. Keep the look as streamlined as possible. Also, be sure your communicating one message. For example be sure that is if your blouse is romantic wear a romantic inspired heel and be sure the harem pants fabric is lighter and more whimsical to keep the style in one category. When you are using trends try to keep yourself from becoming a fashion victim. The harem pants if paired with a high shouldered jacket or a vest or another trendy sort of top should be in a more traditional fabric such as a light wool, and the pattern or color should be more conservative.

Finally, before you purchase harem pants take a good look in the mirror. This look is certainly not for everyone and can make a person who carries their weight in the hips / bottom appear even wider. This is definitely not a look for a triangle or a pear. Instead an inverted triangle, or rectangle would look best in this trend.

Back to School!

I can hear the school bell ring as the kids rush the doors to start one of the biggest days of their year. The day I speak of is the first day of school. Just like a first day at a new job, the first day of school comes with a great deal of mixed emotions. The first day for many provides a fresh start or expectations to continue to operate at a high level, and for some to hopefully raise the bar and maybe even surprise peers. That being said a child's first day can be everything from exciting, to scary, to fun, to adventuresome, to downright terrifying. As a parent you can only hope that all the training, manners, and experiences you have offered them thus far will skew their first day towards exhilarating and away from terrifying.

As an image consultant I am constantly scoping the outside world to find opportunities to make peoples lives a little easier. Therefore it seemed appropriate to develop a guide for Back to School shopping. What is "cool" at the moment and what sorts of styles have staying power? I attended a trend conference this spring. At my trend conference we discussed what is currently on point as well as what has staying power. From that area we go on to discuss what sorts of things our on the horizon. Obviously, this is a large topic however, I have compressed it into a few points to make life easier.
